SHS launches Heritage Quest campaign
KUCHING: Sarawak Heritage Society ( SHS) has launched a heritage search campaign throughout the state known as ‘ Heritage Quest’.
According to SHS president Dato Sri Robert Jacob Ridu, the campaign which is taking place until the end of January next year, aims to preserve and sustain the identity of Sarawak’s cultural heritage.
Through this campaign, the public is expected to assist with taking photographs of old buildings, natural monuments or multicultural art, historical sites and cultural heritage that represent the diversity of cultures in Sarawak and the country.
“As Sarawak rapidly develops, we need to realise that we cannot just forget or even remove our heritage. It is part of our history and also a gift to the younger generation. We hope it is not too late for us to preserve and appreciate our heritage,” he told a press conference at the launch of the

Jacob revealed that the association is inviting all Sarawakians to help identify items of signifi cant heritage interest that need to be highlighted for protection or conservation.
Members of the public can help by taking photos and providing important information on what it is, where it is taken and why it is important for to preserve the item as cultural heritage.
“All information channeled through the campaign will be analysed with detailed information to be submitted to the state or private sector for further action. This move aims to protect and conserve our legacy for future generations and promote tourism,” he said.
