MIRI: Excitement shone from the faces of young children taken for an educational tour to Bomba Lopeng Fire Station here yesterday.

Led by Brilliant Kindergarten Miri principal Chai Kim Kui, more than 80 people comprising children, parents, former students and staff were welcomed by senior fire officer II Nasir Razali and other firefighters.

The group was briefed on the objectives, functions and duties of the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and its special teams.

These include fire prevention and extinguishing services, enforcing laws relating to security and fire prevention, providing efficient and effective humanitarian services.

According to Nasir, the duty of Bomba is comprehensive and not limited to eradicate fire.

“Some of our tasks are to catch snakes, rescue trapped persona, flood operation, accidents and so on. We take our job seriously even when we had to rescue a cat trapped on a tree,” he said.

During the visit, children were taught about self-rescue in the event of a fire, the correct way of using fire extinguisher and what they should do to avoid fire. They toured the control room and were briefed on Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicles, Fire Rescue Tender and given the opportunity to try the sliding pole and water hose.

The trip ended with lunch at Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) Taman Selera here.
