St Alban Church to have priest quarters, parish hall soon

SARIKEI: St Alban Anglican Church in Susur Jambu here will have two structures added to the complex soon.

The priest in-charge Fr Rentap Nuang said the proposed structures are a priest quarters and a parish hall to sit on a 1,812-square metre land beside the church. Due to limited fund available, they would start with the priest quarters first, to be completed within 36 months, before undertakin­g the parish hall project.

He, however, did not disclose the total amount raised thus far nor did he disclose the estimated cost of the proposed projects.

Neverthele­ss, the Parochial Church Council (PCC) will embark on an aggressive fund- raising drive, he said during the site blessing and earth-breaking ceremony of the proposed projects last Friday afternoon.

Though the proposed projects are just about to take off, he is confident they would be completed with the tireless efforts of the PCC and prayers from everybody here, Fr Rentap said.

Bishop of Kuching (Sarawak) and Brunei the right Rev Danald Jute was on hand to perform the earth-breaking ceremony, in the presence of director of Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) Datu Dr Ngenang Jangu, chief registrar of Sarawak Bumiputera Court Datu Michael Dawi and Father Rentap.

Bishop Danald and Fr Rentap thanked Ngenang and Michael for rendering assistance to realise the projects. They also thanked the Sarawak government for providing the site and financial assistance.
