MCCCI plans safer ‘Pasar Gong Xi Fa Cai 2019’

-

MIRI: Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) called on both the Police Department and Rela to strengthen enforcement for ‘Pasar Gong Xi Fa Cai 2019’.

MCCCI chairman Lee Khoi Yun made the call Thursday during the first main committee meeting for the bazaar, disclosing that they faced several problems the previous two years.

“Some of the stall owners’ goods were stolen, causing financial loss,” he said.

The bazaar has been held successfully since 2000 with the collaboration of Miri City Council, Police Department, JKR, SEB, Miri Red Crescent, Miri Parking System Sdn Bhd and Rela.

“The bazaar faced frequent blackouts and we hope that SEB can advise and provide assistance to effectively solve this problem. There were a lot of people pushing and shoving around the stage area during the previous launching ceremony. We need Rela’s assistance with crowd control and seat arrangement,” he added.

For 2019, Lee revealed that Kingsway and High Street will be blocked from Jan 26 starting 8pm for canopies to be set up. ‘Pasar Gong Xi Fa Cai 2019’ will open for business from Jan 29, 2019 at 8am till Feb 4, 2019 at 11am, a total of seven days and six nights.

The stalls on the embankment at Kingsway will commence business from Jan 12, 2019.

As in previous year, 260 stalls will be set up with the official launching ceremony on Feb 2 at 8pm.

There will be some price adjustments with 20x20 booths to be increased by RM 100, and other sizes will increase by RM50.
