Sadong Bore organisers to expand golf tourney next year

KUCHING: Organisers of the annual Sadong Bore Golf Tournament is conf ident of holding the event on a larger scale in the near future with the entry to be extended to golfers from throughout the state.

This was announced by the organising committee chairman Councillor Japar Mustapha who said the response towards this year’s event was overwhelmi­ng with double the entries received compared to previous year.

“When we first started there were only 38 entries and now there is twice the number of golfers taking part in this event being held at Damai Golf and Country Club ( DGCC),” he said at the closing and prize presentati­on held yesterday.

He also added that the oneday event under patronage of Simunjan assemblyma­n Awla Dris and was aimed to foster cordial relations among the participan­ts who comprised of those from the constituen­cy particular­ly Sadong Jaya district.

Meanwhile, in this year’s event, DGCC general manager Roslan Mohd Salleh emerged champion in the VIP category after he carded 37 Stableford points on countback (OCB) while state assemblyma­n for Daro, Safiee Ahmad fi nished second and Dato Kamal Husin was third.

In the Invited Guests gross category, Awang Sani Seruji finished first after he carded 80 strokes while Awang Madzelan fi nished second with two strokes adrift and Abdul Hamid Lian was third with 85 strokes.

The Invited Guests Nett category saw Mohd Abdul Halimshah fi nishing fi rst with an impressive five-under par 67 while Abdillah Dolhan was second and Fathely Billy came in third with two strokes adrift.

In the Sadongians g ross category, Othman Junaidi came in fi rst with 88 strokes while DSP Mohd Shapiee Oshman came in second and Zekaria Hussani fi nished third.

In the Sadongians nett category, Japar Mustapha finished first with 74 strokes while Hipni Kanaini came in second with 75 strokes and Dr Le eS a at finished third.

The Longest Drive ( LD) prizes were won by Safiee Ahmad with a distance of 227 meters over Hole 18 while Choo Kueh Fong also won when he hit a distance of 245 metres over Hole 4.

The winners for the Nearest to the Pin (NTP) prizes were Awang Madzelan ( Hole 15), Abdul Hamid Lian ( Hole 12), Afi zan Mohamad ( Hole 8) and Saizini Omar ( Hole 5).

The winners for the Nearest to the Line (NTL) were Saidun Said ( Hole 16) and Sapuani Jai ( Hole 7).

The winners received their prizes from Awla Dris who was accompanie­d by Sarawak Economic Developmen­t Corporatio­n ( SEDC) general manager Datu Soedirman Aini and president of Sarawak Islamic Council, Datu Misnu Taha.
