KUCHING: Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah hopes that women living in the interior areas of Sarawak have the awareness to go for breast cancer screening to avoid detection of the disease at a late stage.

She said she was sad to hear of breast cancer patients in the interior of the state who only found out that they suffered from the disease at a very late stage.

Thus, she hoped more activities would be conducted to create awareness of breast cancer screening at the district level or small areas in the interior.

“With awareness activities at the districts, we hope that more women would go for breast cancer screening to detect the disease at early stage,” she stressed in her speech at the Sarawak Breast Cancer Support Group’s 25th anniversary dinner at the Sarawak Club on Sunday.

On a related matter, she also hoped that the Sarawak Breast Cancer Support Group will get help in running breast cancer awareness programmes.

She thanked the group for choosing her constituency Dalat as one of the areas for their breast cancer awareness campaign.

A Ratu Kebaya contest was held during the dinner.
