SDNU to discuss dates for courtesy call on CM, TGM

-

KUCHING: Sarawak Dayak National Union ( SDNU) will arrange for a meeting this Nov 24 to discuss two key matters – setting up a date for its delegates to pay courtesy call on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, and another for its next triennial general meeting ( TGM).

According to Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom, who is also the union president, the courtesy call on Abang Johari is meant as a gesture of goodwill.

“We would also like to invite him to the SDNU TGM welcoming dinner and opening ceremony next year,” he said when met here yesterday.

SDNU is touted as the largest Dayak- based association in Malaysia in terms of the number of divisions and members. It generally plays the role of being an umbrella body to some smaller Dayak- based non- governmental organisations ( NGOs).

Adding on, Mawan said Abang Johari did the right thing in imposing the five-per cent sales tax on Sarawak’s exported petroleum products, as a way to generate income for the state coffers.

“We stand solidly behind the CM on this. It is the essence of Sarawak’s rights, which is long overdue.”

The five- per cent sales tax on Sarawak’s exported petroleum products was proposed by Abang Johari in his recent tabling of Sarawak Budget 2019.

Meanwhile, Mawan acknowledged the delay in obtaining the occupational permit ( OP) for Rumah Dayak commercial block from Kuching North City Commission ( DBKU).

Moreover, he said he had directed a special committee to address the matter on severing the tower part from the shoplot section of the block, located at Jalan Satok here.

However, he said the committee had yet to brief him regarding this arrangement.

“If I find out who are not doing their work, some heads would roll,” he said in expressing his frustration over the matter.

The Rumah Dayak project, which commenced in 1997, has reached completion but until now, the block is yet to be issued with OP.
