-

SIBU: Newly minted Sibu District education officer Radin Foji Radin Abdul Rahim has come up with a tagline, ‘ Sibu Super 1’, which he believes will make district education office ( PPD) Sibu the best in the country.

He explained: “The ‘ Sibu Super 1’ means superb in efforts and achievement. We are benchmarking PPD Putrajaya, which is one of the best PPDs in the country.”

He said concerted efforts from all principals and headmasters here are needed to realise the dream.

“I would like to see more schools in Sibu emulate SMK Sacred Heart’s footsteps, which has just added another cap to its feather – accorded the Special Sarawak Chief Minister Award 2018.

“We want to move forward, we want to be the best. PPD Putrajaya is one of the best PPDs in the nation. So, we would like to benchmark the best and to move forward.

“I believe with the momentum that we have at the moment we will realise our dream one day. It may not be in a short while, but at least we have a dream,” Radin Foji said.

He said this could be achieved earlier if there are joint efforts by all stakeholders.

He told reporters this after the handing over ceremony for the Special Sarawak Chief Minister Awards 2018 here yesterday.

He presented the awards to SMK Sacred Heart principal David Teo Wu.

SMK Sacred Heart received two Special Sarawak Chief Minister Awards, namely excellence Sarawak Secondary School and STPM excellent student ( Wong Fong Fei).

Radin Foji said he mentioned PPD Putrajaya as it is one of the best education districts in the country.

“That is why, we want to go there and so, the journey towards excellence.”

In this connection, he said tracking has to start from pre- school and all the way to secondary level.

“That is why we have this programme, where the principal is going down to feeder schools to talk to pupils especially those in Primary Six.”

Meanwhile, Teo said SMK Sacred Heart was awarded the Special Sarawak Chief Minister Awards 2018 – “Sekolah Menengah Cemerlang Sarawak” - for successive years of excellence in education.

“We were judged according to our academic, student affairs and co- curricular performances for the past three years and we stood head and shoulders above the other schools to receive this award,” he said.

At the event, tokens of appreciation was presented to four retired teachers and one non-teaching staff.

Among those present were first vice chairman of the school board of management Lau Swee Nguong, parent teacher association ( PTA) vicechairmen James Tiang and Dr Louis Ling, Sacred Heart Old Students association ( Shosa) treasurer Lau Tiew Kiong and assistant treasurer Phan Fuo Sz.
