MIRI: Team Hybrid Devices emerged champion in the Minister’s Innovation Award (AIM) 2018 organised by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government in Putrajaya recently.

Comprising members of the Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba) Miri and Miri Amateur Radio Club (MARC), they came out tops among 49 teams competing for the award with their topic ‘ Searchand-Rescue Management System (SAR MS) Version 2’, and walked away with RM5,000, a trophy and certificates.

In addition, Devices Hybrid was also adjudged winner of the Innovative and Creative Group ( KIK) 2018 category, and received RM3,000 as well as certificates.

Bomba Miri chief Law Poh Kiong said the team was established two years ago and have taken part in eight KIK competitions at national-level.

“We never gave up and this was first win in the KIK category,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

This year’s KIK category was a contest involving 14 teams, including eight Bomba teams throughout the country.

Law also praised team members for working together to create a system that can effectively assist in SAR operations.

“This SAR MS Version 2 is a communication and compact computerised system that can easily be used during searchand-rescues in remote areas,” he added.

Meanwhile, MARC chairman Lo Kiun Sin said the system can relay images even though it is beyond telecommunication coverage, and is simple to operate compared to other communication systems.

Ministry of Housing and Local Government secretary- general Dato Sri Mohammad Mentek presented the awards to the winners.
