Parents urged to provide children with learning facilities at home

-

KAPIT: Parents are urged to provide study facilities such as desk and chair at home so that their children can have proper place to do their home works and revision.

An administrative officer in the Kapit Resident’s Office Belayong Pok said these little investments towards the education of their children would encourage their children to be diligent in their studies.

“Education starts at home. Parents are the first educator before the children attend preschool or primary school and thereafter. I have travelled widely to the longhouses and kampongs, one thing I observed was many ‘ bilik’ at longhouses don’t even have a proper desk and chair for their children to study at home. The children would do their homework in front of the television. This is not conducive to learning. You have money to buy expensive large television and DVD screen, expensive sofa, etc. But in the ‘ bilik’ there is no proper desk and chair for children to do revision or homework. Please make sure there is proper place for children to study at home,” said Belayong when he officiated at a graduation ceremony for preschoolers held at Dewan Sri Baleh here recently.

He also urged the children to take education seriously stressing that attaining good education would ensure them a better future. At the function, he presented prizes and certificates to the graduating preschoolers.
