Young keglers attend basic bowling course
KUCHING: Fifty bowlers aged nine to 17 attended the General Knowledge Course on Technique Advancement at Megalanes Sarawak, Batu Kawa last Sunday.
Sarawak State Sports Council ( MSNS) Centre of Excellence coach Daniel Tan said this is the first time that the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), MSNS and the Amateur Tenpin Bowling Association of Sarawak (ABAS) have jointly conducted such course for students.
Tan, who was assisted by Angelo Koay, Bong Kihow and Jerusha Chan, added that more such courses will be organised next year.
According to him, the course is aimed at improving the physical game of Centre of Excellence ( PC) athletes and letting them have a better understanding of the game.
Among the topics during the course included planning and mapping out personalised training specifics and putting training plan into practice, sparing, physical conditioning, goal- setting, time management and knowing the game.
SSC chief executive officer Dr Ong Kong Swee, who closed the event late Sunday, advised the participants to make good use of the knowledge obtained to upgrade their game.
“This is a very important programme and there are many opportunities for you because you are all still quite young. There is always a chance to go further.
“I hope you will continue to attend more such programmes that will be organised. You must also learn to love the game so that you will last long in bowling,” Ong said, adding that the participants are a lucky lot because Sarawak is the only State that have this kind of training module.
Ong, who is also MSNS director, also pointed out that athletes who are “thinking” athletes have an edge over those who are not well versed in the technical aspects of the games.
Also present were SSC sports development manager Ahmad Rodzli Hashim and ABAS vice president Robert Lu.
