One and a half month bonus timely — Wong

-

KUCHING: The one and a half month bonus as announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg when delivering his winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly ( DUN) yesterday is timely to further motivate civil servants in implementing state government projects and programmes.

It also marked another significant event for civil servants, said Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

“I think this is the highest. In the past we only gave up to a month or at the most, one month minimum of RM1,000, but this time it is a record, one and half month bonus of their basic salary or a minimum of RM2,000.

“We want to motivate them (civil servants) to carry out full implementation of all the programmes and projects, as you know the budget is huge and probably the civil servants have to work doubly hard this time to deliver and implement all the programmes and projects as announced by the Chief Minister,” said Wong when met by reporters at the State Legislative Assembly building here yesterday.

Wong revealed that the major infrastructure projects include rural transformation initiatives, walkabout projects, road network, water and electricity supply.

“There are also several other infrastructure projects by Recoda to be implemented under the three development agencies; namely Highland Development Agency, Upper Rajang Development Agency and Northern Region Development Agency as well as the on-going Pan Borneo Highway project, which involves an amount exceeding RM10 billion,” he disclosed.

“So, with that motivation, we hope civil servants will be greatly motivated to work hard to increase their implementing capacity to deliver all the projects on time,” he added.

Wong said all civil servants at all levels are eligible for the bonus including those working in the councils, except the elected representatives.

“This ( bonus) is for this time but who knows next year we will increase (it),” he added.
