Masing ‘pleased’ no interruptions by opposition during CM’s speech

-

THE smooth end to the final day of the State Legislative Assembly ( DUN) sitting yesterday was ‘pleasing’, according to Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing.

He said this was because there were no interruptions or interjections by opposition assemblypersons when Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg delivered his winding-up speech.

“I am very pleased that while CM was making his speech just now, there was no interruption. There is no cause for PH (Pakatan Harapan) ADUNs (assemblypersons) to interject. Everybody was listening to him (Abang Johari) with all sincerity.

“We should go forward, forget what happened and let us go as Sarawakians. We are pleased that PH ADUNs understand that, in the spirit of the delivery of the budget,” he told reporters when met at the DUN Complex here yesterday.

Masing added that by now, all assemblypersons should know that the chief minister is very sincere in his approach.

“There’s no sarcasm at all in what he ( Abang Johari) said (during his winding-up speech). I think that should be the spirit of PH ADUNs who must take it upon themselves not to interrupt.

“It (speech) was nice, smooth and clean. If you listened to what he (Abang Johari) said and listened to the speech, it is very well written by the CM’s Office and very well read, and the manner really impressed me. You can feel the sincerity, and that is very important.”

On another matter, Masing said the recently-tabled State Budget was very good for Sarawak as it did not touch the state’s reserves.

“We have found another source of revenue and that is through our sales tax from oil and gas, which should have been done here years ago but we did not do it.

“But let us not look back at what we did not do. Let us look at what we can do, today and tomorrow. That is very important to us,” he added.

Masing also lauded Abang Johari’s invitation to the AuditorGeneral and the MACC to attend State Tender Board meetings chaired by the State Financial Secretary, saying it was a good move.

“We are doing things in a real transparent manner, bringing the authority concerned to be sitting with us, and this will allow no further doubt whether there is any form of corruption. This is important and the chief minister did the correct thing.”
