Appoint young professionals in GLC board — Syed Saddiq

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Government-linked companies should provide places for young professionals to join their Board of Directors.

Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Rahman said the ministry would push for the matter at Cabinet level to ensure it was realised.

“If we look at Fortune 100 companies, most members of their board of directors are aged 35 years and above.

“If we look the board of directors in Malaysia, the majority is aged 50 and above,” he told a media conference here yesterday.

Asked on the quota of young professional needed for GLC boards, Syed Saddiq said it had not be determined and would be discussed further in the Cabinet.

On a Cabinet reshuffle, he said it was all up to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“It is the prerogative of the prime minister, whatever happens, we will respect the decision,” he said. — Bernama
