Parti Sarawak Bersatu to be new name of UPP, pending delegates’ approval

-

KUCHING: United People’s Party ( UPP) will be known as Parti Sarawak Bersatu ( PSB) following its rebranding exercise, a party insider has revealed to The Borneo Post.

Contrary to a report in a local daily yesterday, which stated that the party’s new name would be Parti Bersatu Sarawak, the insider also disclosed that the new name remains a proposal as it has yet to be approved by party delegates.

“The decision on the new name and party logo was made by the central working committee. The new name and logo will then be put forward for delegates to vote on during the extraordinary delegates conference ( EDC) on Dec 8,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He added that once the EDC approves of the name change and new logo, the next step would be for an application to be submitted to the Registrar of Societies ( RoS) for approval.

The insider stated that he was perplexed as to how the local daily claimed that the ‘Putrajaya sources’ said the party had already submitted an application to RoS, when it was anything but.

“It (name change) hasn’t even been approved by party delegates, much less submitted to RoS. So how is it that the so- called ‘Putrajaya sources’ said an application had already been submitted?”
