Fire destroys two vehicles in separate road accidents

KUCHING: Two vehicles went up in flames during separate road accidents here early yesterday morning.

The first incident occurred at Jalan Badruddin when a sedan car and a four-wheel- drive (4WD) vehicle collided with each other, causing the former to subsequent­ly catch fire.

According to a Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba) spokespers­on, the department received a distress call at 2.02am and deployed firemen to scene.

“The fire destroyed the car’s engine and was put out using fire extinguish­ers. The driver of the 4WD was unharmed while two other victims travelling in the car suffered minor injuries. One was treated at the scene while the other was sent to the hospital for treatment,” said the spokespers­on.

The second incident occurred in the Tabuan Tranquilit­y area where a sedan car caught fire following a collision with another vehicle.

Personnel from the Tabuan Jaya and Padungan fire stations were dispatched to the scene following a distress call at 3.39am, and were able to douse the flames at 4.18am.

Both drivers were given firstaid treatment at the scene prior to being sent to the hospital for further treatment, said the spokespers­on.
