Pre-schools to be strong education foundation for children – Abg Johari

-

SIBU: Pre- schools in Sarawak will be developed into a strong foundation for the education of children, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg said yesterday.

As part of the effort, the state government would provide trained teachers to guide the children, he pointed out.

“We will have our own curriculum so that our children will have a strong foundation in certain subjects such as Science, Mathematics and languages.

“Our children will have the foundation to know at least the terms used especially in Science and Mathematics when they enter primary school.”

The Chief Minister said he had instructed the Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah to look into the research work to make this possible.

According to him, unlike primary schools and secondary schools where the education system is under the federal government, the pre- schools education system is influenced by the society.

He also said that if the children have good knowledge of science and technology, they could transform Sarawak into the most developed state in Malaysia in the future.

He was speaking when officiating at the prize- giving day of SK Abang Ali at the Civic Centre here.

He disclosed that the state government would give allocations to SK Abang Ali for its development.

“The state government would make sure that SK Abang Ali could be on par with other schools in Sibu in terms of development.

“The government would make sure that the school’s development could continue to progress so that the children could have a conducive place to study,” he added.

Meanwhile, Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapaee thanked the state government for allocating RM3.5 million for the school’s new building block last year.

The block, when completed, will house a seminar room, office, and a meeting room. Incorporated in the project is a parking lot.

Dr Annuar, who is Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research, said the project was still in the process of tendering and hoped the construction could start next year.

Meanwhile, he commended SK Abang Ali for being the best school in Nangka constituency in terms of results for last year’s UPSR.

“I hope that with more facilities, the school will further thrive,” he said.

Also present at the event were Abang Johari’s wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang and SK Abang Ali headmaster Hamdi Najdi.
