Kpg Gita Sg Maong folk to benefit from Alaf scheme beginning 2019
KUCHING: Forty-three households in Kampung Gita Sungai Maong here are set to benefit from the Additional or Late Applicant Fund (Alaf) scheme, beginning next year.
Alaf is a rural power supply programme under the Ministry of Utilities, established to ensure that the goal of 100 per cent electricity coverage across Sarawak would be realised by 2025.
In this regard, the Sarawak government has set aside RM12 million for this provision.
According to Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, works on the RM500,000 Alaf project for Kampung Gita Sungai Maong are expected to commence early next month.
“The project for this village is estimated to take about three month to complete,” he said during a briefing on Alaf project at Kampung Gita Sungai Maong yesterday.
Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) Tupong branch deputychief Senator Dr Zaieidi Suhaili also attended the session.
Adding on, Dr Abdul Rahman who is also Pantai Damai assemblyman called upon the residents of Kampung Gita Sungai Maong, through their village security and development committee (JKKK), to monitor the running of the project and also to help ensure that it would not face problems.
“Based on previous cases, such project would usually encounter problem in gaining permission to access the project site; there have also been some land status issues,” he said.
In this regard, Dr Abdul Rahman stressed that only genuine land title owners whose properties are occupied, are eligible to apply for Alaf.
It is learnt that this project is fully implemented by Sarawak Energy Bhd, through its power supply and distribution unit Syarikat Sesco Bhd.
