The senior player also praised Jin Wei’s consistent performance after winning the gold medal in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games last month.

“Winning the medal (world champion) is the right dose of t on ic for Jin Wei to bag more successes after this. The victory has boosted her confidence in the court. “Jin Wei also needs to gain more experience. Coach Seu Bock has been guiding her very well and as a player she should make full use of the opportunity under his tutelage,” he said when contacted by Bernama. Jin Wei honoured Malaysia once again when she won the BWF World Junior Championships in Mark ham, Canada. The third seed put up an sterling performance to defeat 13 th seed, Line Christophersen of Denmark 21-13 and 21-11 in the final.

The Penang lass had won the same championship in 2015 after beating compatriot Lee Ying Ying in the final in Peru.

Chong Wei said Jin Wei should be aware that after bagging the World Junior title, the real challenge to test her capability now was at the senior level as she would be facing the leading players in the world.

He said the women’s singles event is very competitive as there is a good variety of top-notched players such Tai Tzu Ying (Taiwan), Ratchanok Intanon (Thailand), Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi and Nozomi Okuhara, Carolina Marin ( Spain) and Pusarla V. Sindhu (India). “Garnering the World Junior champion is the best start for her. As a player she should know what she wants in badminton. She is very talented. “I believe if she maintains her consistency, her chance in the 2020 Olympics appears bright and it is not impossible for her to strike a major success in the 2024 Olympic Games,” said Chong Wei. — Bernama
