GPS must be real serious about PKR’s threat — Minos
KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) must take seriously Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s ( PKR) intention to take over Sarawak after the next state election.
A political analyst Datuk Peter Minos said PKR’s intention was serious and it must not be taken lightly by GPS.
He cautioned that PKR top leaders, in particular Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Datuk Seri Mohhamed Azmin Ali, had openly stated that PKR had real and serious intention to take over the Sarawak government in 2021.
He said GPS must not allow PKR or DAP, which are controlled by Putrajaya, to come over and rule Sarawak.
“The chief minister has openly said that only Sarawak leaders know and understand Sarawak and its people, and are thus fit to run Sarawak, not those from Putrajaya, and not even locals who are controlled by Putrajaya.
“The message from the chief minister and chairman of GPS is very loud and clear. That should be the clear direction for GPS and Sarawkians. Sarawak must be ruled by Sarawak leaders. Full stop,” he said.
Minos said it needed no elaboration that now Putrajaya is not treating Sarawak fairly and justly.
“Just two issues – the Malaysia Agreement ( MA63) and more money from Petronas out of Sarawak’s own oil and gas – have till now not been met or entertained.
“You can imagine Sarawakians’ unhappiness and disappointment. GPS does well in continuing with the appeal and really struggle for Sarawak.
“It is not just politics. It is a struggle for Sarawak’s legitimate rights and interests, now and in the long term. That must be the direction of GPS for Sarawak,” he said.
Minos also believed that with the news that GPS has been approved of its registration by the Registrar of Societies ( ROS), GPS promoters and supporters in Sarawak are naturally relieved and jubilant.
He said what is next for GPS, especially its component parties – Parti Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB), Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party ( PDP), were obvious – that their leaders would and must go down to promote GPS, especially on what it stands for and its vision for Sarawak.
He said the rural folk are the key target, because they are still not so sure about the new political body.
He believed that urban Sarawakians have heard and known GPS for sometime now, but some still want to know more.
“How to get Sarawakians to forget about Barisan Nasional ( BN), especially the rural folk, is one big task
“BN had been around and accepted by the people for a long long time. GPS has to convince Sarawakians that BN is gone by giving good reasons why GPS is taking over in Sarawak,” he said.
Minos, however, believed that two years of promoting and marketing GPS would be long enough but it has to be done immediately, seriously and earnestly all over Sarawak, both in the urban and rural areas.
He said GPS leaders are seasoned and experienced politicians, and promoting GPS would not be too ardous and difficult.
