Holistic student-centred education the way forward — Harden
SRI AMAN: The education system nowadays has changed tremendously – from being teacher- centred to one that is now more student- centred.
In this regard, Assistant Minister of Community Wellbeing Datuk Francis Harden Hollis observes that the learning process these days is based on communications, critical and collaborative thinking, and creativity.
As such, he believes that schools nowadays must be able to command the challenges of 21st century learning.
“In this case, it is in parallel with one of the the NKRA (National Key Result Area) agenda, which is to widen the access to quality and affordable education.
“We hope that all teachers would be ready for the new changes in our education system, through innovations and continuous strategies,” he spoke at the ‘ 27th Excellence Ceremony Awards Phase II–Year 2018’ at SK Agama Sri Aman on Monday.
Harden, who is Simanggang assemblyman, said with the current challenges in education, everybody from all levels of the community needs to be involved – not just the teachers, the students and their parents.
“We also hope that all efforts that are being done at school, would be continued by the parents when the children are at home,” he said.
Later, Harden pledged an allocation of RM10,000 to SK Agama Sri Aman parent-teacher association for it to run various activities next year.
Meanwhile, 150 pupils received awards, prizes and certificates for achievements in academic, cocurricular and out- of- classroom activities that the school had organised over the year to date.
