RPA new chairman hopes to get same level of support from staff

-

SIBU: Rajang Port Authority’s ( RPA) new chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh hopes to get the same support the staff gave to the previous chairman, the late Vincent Goh Chung Siong.

Ting said he was proud to be appointed to the post by the Sarawak government.

“Initially, I thought RPA was not challenging but after five months into the job, I realised there are a lot to do.

“After looking at the account, I said to myself: This is a very big challenge,” he said during the RPA annual dinner on Monday.

Ting called on the staff that they should be able to make RPA better in years to come, being the only port in Sibu that has been around for so many years.

“The most important thing for us in RPA to do is to strive better and harder in making sure our services are provided as smooth as silk.

“We are into support service business and if we are efficient, our clients using our services will make money.

“The money-making part will come if our services continue to move with the time,” he said.

Meanwhile, its general manager Datin Helen Lim said she was confident the port would be able to do better this year than last year.

Without disclosing any figures, she said the port registered a 15 per cent-increase in cargo throughput and a 20 per cent-increase in containers in the first 11 months of this year compared to the same period last year.

“Total revenue has increased by 20 per cent from last year by keeping total expenditure to the minimum,” she said.

She also said that RPA was recognised as an Asia Pacific Honesty Enterprise in 2017.

Permanent secretary to the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Transportation Datu Safri Zainudin was also present at the dinner.
