Foreign plantation workers nabbed over murder of countryman

MIRI: Police have rounded up nine Indonesian workers in connection with the murder of their countryman at an oil palm estate in Bakong.

Baram police chief DSP Gabriel Risut said the incident happened on Dec 1 when the victim, 22-year- old Rusdi Maming, was fatally attacked by a group of men at their shared quarters.

“The victim suffered serious head injuries in the 11.30pm incident and was rushed to Miri Hospital but did not survive,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He added that police then headed to the plantation and arrested nine suspects, aged between 18 and 45, including the 40-year- old main suspect.

“Initial investigat­ion found that the attack was due to the victim’s alleged affair with the wife of the main suspect.”

Gabriel said police also seized a knife believed to the weapon used in the incident, and have classified the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
