Bad weather halts search for elderly villager

-

LUNDU: A search- and- rescue ( SAR) operation for a senior citizen ended yesterday amid bad weather without any positive development.

The victim, 74-year- old Nohik Gindon, was last seen by family members at his house in Kampung Silok around 1.30pm on Sunday.

A spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the family realised the senior citizen was no longer in the house about 30 minutes later, and searched in vain for him outside as well as around Lundu bazaar.

“A missing person’s report was lodged at 10pm that same day, and Bomba launched the SAR operation after being notified at 11.55pm,” said the spokesperson.

Yesterday’s search covered a two-kilometre radius, involving Bomba’s canine unit as well as police personnel and Civil Defence Force.

The operation was called off at 5pm due to heavy rain, but is expected to resume today.
