Duo to spend five months in jail for house trespass

-

SIBU: Two men opted to spend five months in jail instead of paying the RM3,800 fine imposed on each of them by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for committing house trespass.

Jerome Chua, 39, of Au Yong Road and Wong King Ping, 49, of Tiong Hua Road, pleaded guilty to the joint charge framed under Section 448 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the same Code.

Under the charge, an offender could be imprisoned up to three years or fined RM5,000 or both.

They were charged with common intention of committing house trespass by entering into a house at Trusan Road in Rantau Panjang at 5.10pm on Nov 29.

The court was earlier told that the house owner received a phone call from his wife alerting him that two unknown males had entered their house compound and been detained.

He rushed home to find a tampered iron gate.

The two trespassers were subsequently brought to the Sibu police station.

Investigation revealed that the house owner’s wife had gone to the house to feed their dogs. Upon arrival she saw two men tampering with the iron gate at the back of the house.

She immediately sought help from her brother-in-law who apprehended the two men with help from local villagers and handed the duo over to the police.
