Driver, young passenger seriously injured after car lands in ditch

-

SERIAN: Firefighters extricated a man from his wrecked car after it was involved in an accident at Jalan Ensengei Sungai, Menaul on Sunday.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said a team from the Serian station was despatched to the scene following a distress call received at 9.13pm.

Upon arrival, they promptly attended to the 48-year- old driver, who was pinned to his seat after the car overturned and landed inside a ditch by the road.

It is learnt that a 16-year old male passenger managed to crawl out of the vehicle.

“The firefighters used hydraulic- powered tools for the rescue,” said the spokesman, adding that both victims, who sustained serious injuries, were given basic medical attention before being taken to hospital for further treatment.

In a separate incident, a house in Kampung Pueh was destroyed by fire early yesterday.

Firefighters from the Lundu station were deployed to the scene following a distress call around 7.30am.

However, there was nothing much that they could do upon arrival as the flames had destroyed the house and a motorcycle there.

No injury or casualty was reported in the incident. The operation concluded at 8.40am.
