Govt assures PLKN contract workers of help

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The fate of 2,100 contract personnel of the National Service Training Programme ( PLKN) is looked after despite the decision of the Cabinet to abolish PLKN since August.

Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said his ministry was seeking to help them find employment in the government service or private sector.

‘’ We are focusing to help the existing contract officers by finding them work and providing a soft landing from June to December during which their salaries are still being paid.

‘’ Maybe, we will consider absorbing them into programmes to be implemented by the ministry such as the Malaysian Future Leaders School (MPLS) programme to be held next year. Maybe, we cannot take all, but we will try to help as best as possible,’’ he said at a question and answer session in Dewan Negara yesterday.

He was answering a supplementary question from Senator Mohamad Imran Abdul Hamid who wanted to know the approach of the government to look after the welfare of the staff of PLKN. — Bernama
