Asia School of Business offers 20-month MBA programme

-

KUCHING: Asia School of Business (ASB) – a global premier business school established by Bank Negara Malaysia ( BNM) – is offering a 20-month Master of Business Administration ( MBA) programme in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology ( MIT) Sloan School of Management.

This ASB MBA programme promises a rigorous and wellstructured journey to becoming an industry-ready changemaker.

“Our MBA programme is one of a kind as our curriculum is built focusing on Action Learning,” said ASB chief operating officer Rhoda Yap during a recent interview with The Borneo Post here.

Action Learning is the process of learning by doing and doing by learning, guided by theoretical tools and frameworks and with the support of faculty, mentors and industry leaders.

According to Yap, ASB takes its students on a transformative journey during their 20- month programme via five significant projects in Southeast Asia and beyond.

The Action Learning course incorporates the teaching of multi- disciplinary theories and frameworks delivered in the classroom that connects to real problems faced by ASB’s partner hosts.

A third of the programme is spent on- site working with ASB’s host partners in different countries on different problem areas, generating value for both students and host partners.

ASB’s Action Learning hosts in the region include AirAsia, Ancora Group ( Indonesia), Bangkok Bank ( Thailand), Del Monto ( Philippines), General Electric, Johnson & Johnson, Maybank, Proctor & Gamble ( Myanmar), Royal Selangor and Singha Corporation (Singapore).

Additionally for summer projects, students have been hosted by Citibank, Google, Khazanah, Microsoft, Petronas and Traveloka – to name a few.

The programme’s emphasis is on strengthening students’ theoretical understanding with hands- on practical applications, pointed out Yap.

“On average, ASB students have five years of work experience before they begin their 20-month full-time MBA programme with us.“Upon graduation, they will bring with them a strong sense of adaptability and marketreadiness, allowing them to integrate faster into any working environment and deliver positive impact,” she said.

The ASB MBA programme includes four weeks of immersion at MIT Sloan in Cambridge, the US, a week of industry trek featuring visits to companies within the technology, manufacturing, financial and policy- making sectors.

The inaugural intake of the programme was in 2016 and this first batch of students graduated last March.

“We are mission- driven to cultivate talent and more importantly, there are so many talented people in Sarawak. We want to see more Sarawakians invest in human capital development.

“There are people out there who do not realise their potential. And we want more Sarawakians, with human capital development in mind, to learn about what a premium MBA can do for them,” said Yap.

Notably, ASB’s new 20- acre campus located in Kuala Lumpur is scheduled for completion by the end of next year. This campus is set to become a landmark of quality and excellence, a new ‘ heart’ for academic and social exchange, and a disruptive learning destination for a global community of changemakers.

ASB’s current students come from six continents, 21 countries and 32 industries who are ready to contribute to the economic strength and development of Malaysia and beyond.

Applications including all required documents and recommendation letters are due by 3pm on Jan 24, 2019 ( Round 2) and April 2, 2019 ( Round 3).
