KAPIT: Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan threw a chal lenge to participants of the 14th Sarawak Indoor Archery Championship over the weekend.

“Chase after the dream to become state, national or world champion,” he urged them as he closed the state tournament at Bletih Indoor Stadium here on Sunday. He listed qualities such as dedication, commitment, focus, concentration and discipline that would help them to achieve their dream.

The Assistant Minister also announced a RM10,000 grant for the Kapit Division Archery Association which hosted the event. He added that he liked the idea of organising state competitions in rural areas which have a lot of untapped potential in sports.

Over 100 participants, coaches and officials throughout Sarawak were involved in the five- day event.

Meanwhile, Kapit Division Archery Association president Ting King Yiing revealed that his relatively new association was trying very hard to promote the sport. This included an outreach programme to four schools and sending archers to compete outside Kapit.

Among those present at the closing ceremony were a political secretary to the Chief Minister of Sarawak Nicholas Kudi Jantai, Sarawak Archery Association secretary-general Chong Yap Jin, OCPD Kapit DSP Freddy Bian, Kapit Youth and Sports Officer Shyennier Jean and MSNS officer Augustine Paul.
