Multi-storey carpark project to ease parking woes in Kapit town
KAPIT: A four- storey carpark located at the former Gerai Empurau Night Market is expected to alleviate the acute shortage of parking spaces in Kapit town.
Upon completion, the carpark will have more than 100 parking bays for vehicles and motorcycles. There will also be a café on the top floor.
Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat yesterday visited the project site at Jalan Yong Mok Chai here.
Accompanying Jamit were Kapit District Council secretary Jabang Juntan, officer-in- charge of Public Health and Environment Favian Masing, councillors Daniel Levoh, Michael Nyantaw, Jenny Yii, Kapit District Office administrative officer in charge of physical project Robert Anyaw and SUPP Kapit branch chairman Ling Thia Ming.
Also present were representatives from Perunding Jaya Bina Chua Kah Ee, Perunding E-Mechs Felix Bong, Rizaleslie Sdn Bhd Cheong Chien Ling and Wee Liang Cheng and Ling Ei Kwuong of Aruh Bumi Sdn Bhd.
During the visit, Jabang briefed Jamit on the progress of project.
When talking to the press, Jamit hoped that the project will be completed on schedule and was optimistic that the carpark could help ease parking woes in town.
He also disclosed that apart from the multi- storey carpark, other major projects being implemented here are landscaping of Kapit Riverfront, Lily Pond beautification, upgrading of the Town Square to transform Kapit town.
Jamit pointed out that in two or three years, Kapit would be connected to the state trunk road and this will bring in more visitors from other towns..
“We must therefore be prepared for the influx of visitors and all these projects will complement the existing facilities in Kapit,” he added.
Jamit has been going to the ground not only to meet his constituents but also to inspect rural transformation ( RTP) and minor rural ( MRP) projects at longhouses and villages.
His visit to the grassroots was also to get their feedback on their needs and explain Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government policies.
In the past two weeks, he visited Rumah Segih, Sungai Melipis, Rumah Robert at Nanga Sebatu, Batang Rajang, Rumah Baja Rawing, Nanga Nyitau, Yong as well as the landslide site at Taman Thiam Chiong in Jalan Padang Sukan.
He also attended a briefing on RTP at Kapit District Council yesterday and is attending Kapit development briefing at Bletih Complex today.
Tomorrow ( Dec 8), he will visit Sungai Merirai in Baleh.
