KUCHING: The Damai Gol f and Country Club (DGCC) will host the 21st Sarawak International Junior Golf Championship next year.

This was revealed by Sarawak Gol f Associat ion president Hoan Kee Hock at the closing and prize presentation ceremony of this year’s event at the club recently.

DGCC general manager Roslan Mohd Salleh said the hosting of this year’s junior event was a success with the participation of over 100 young golfers from Thailand, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia.

“So far, we have received only positive feedback from the young participants who were more than happy to play on the same golf course which was used during this year’s Asian Tour and Asian Development Tour championships,” he said.

DGCC have also garnered the support from Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), SGA, Malaysia Golf Association ( MGA) and Professional Golf Malaysia (PGM) in becoming host for the list of international events next year.

“We hope to woo more golfers from overseas to come over to Sarawak for their golf holidays especially during the coming Visit Sarawak Year 2019,” he added.

For the junior level gol f tournaments this year, the club had hosted the Sarawak Junior Open Masters Championship in March and the 20th Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup International Golf Championship last month.

Roslan added that both local young golfers and those from overseas were g iven good exposure in compet ing at DGCC’s international standard gol f course which this year alone had played host to over 300 professional golfers worldwide.

“We want more junior golfers to play at our golf course because many professionals who played here have given their stamps of approval.

“At the same time, we want them to enjoy the experience of playing at DGCC and overcoming the most challenging golf course in Sarawak,” Roslan said.

Meanwhile, the recent November edition of the DGCC-KKB Monthly Escalation Medal (MEM) was won by Choo Kueh Fong and Azman Hamdan in the nett and gross categories respectively.
