S’wak fighters set for muaythai challenge

KUCHING: Sarawak will be fielding four muaythai athletes to vie for the Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg challenge trophy in the Sarawak Chief Minister's Cup Muaythai Championsh­ip at the Kuching Waterfront from Dec 15 to 16.

The athletes entered for the 66kg category are Morris Hii Zhen Wei from Kelab Muaythai D30 Miri, Jordan Bokoet Herman from Kelab Muaythai Bau, Abg Muhammad Uqail Abg Mustapha of Kelab Warmonger Sarawak and Roslan Johani from Kelab Muaythai Phoenix Sadong Jaya Samarahan.

Apart from the CM Cup, other interestin­g bouts in store include the Superfight Women's 57- 60kg where Kelab Muaythai D30 Miri's Maurien Hii will face Dolphina Walter of SS Fighters, and the Superfight Pro Borneo Invitation 61kg with Mayhem Gym Brunei athlete Aaron Lim taking on Wan Syahmi of Phoenix Meranek, Samarahan.

The focus will also be on Muhd Ezham Ibrahim of Red Army Kuala Lumpur and his Thai challenger Suphan Kaeosisaet in the Pro Invitation Internatio­nal 57kg bout.

Persatuan Muaythai Negeri Sarawak ( PMNS) president Jumaat Ibrahim said the amateur bouts would commence at 10am on Dec 15 which will be followed by the CM Cup and profession­al category in the afternoon.

“We are looking to unearth new talents in the amateur bouts in our preparatio­n for Sukma 2020 in Johor.

“This championsh­ip is organised by PMNS with the cooperatio­n of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Kuching North City Commission ( DBKU), Sarawak State Sports Council, Sara Urusharta Sdn Bhd and non - government organisati­ons,” he said at the presentati­on of challenge trophy by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Sarawak State Assembly building on Wednesday.

Also present were Persatuan Berbasikal Sarawak ( PBS) president Dato Benjamin Hasbie, DBKU director Dr Morshidi Ahmad and PMNS committee members.

Meanwhile, PMNS will organise interactiv­e and gotong- royong activities on Sunday.
