KUCHING: The central working committee ( CWC) meeting of Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) yesterday touched on matters pertaining to preparations for the launch of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), expected in January next year.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is SUPP president, said the party’s branches are gearing up to prepare for not just the launch, but also to usher in the Chinese ‘ Year of the Boar’.

According to him, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas is heading the organising committee for the GPS launch.

Dr Sim also said the secretaries-general of the component parties under GPS had offered their opinions during a committee meeting chaired by Uggah recently.

Dr Sim said the CWC meeting also deliberated on Sarawak’s continued efforts to recover its rights and the current political scenario in the country.

On Sarawak’s rights, he said they discussed how the party could play a role in helping the Sarawak government regain what belonged to Sarawak.

“The SUPP is not at liberty to reveal any strategy of the Sarawak government to defend the interest and rights of Sarawakians.

“However, the party will work closely with other GPS component parties, as well as certain nongovernmental organisations ( NGOs) towards recovering the rights of Sarawak,” he spoke during a press conference held after the CWC meeting in SUPP headquarters at Jalan Tan Sri Ong Kee Hui here yesterday.

The component parties of GPS are Parti Pesaka Bersatu Bumiputera ( PBB), SUPP, Parti Rakyat Sarawak ( PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party ( PDP).
