Sunway Kuching’s management diploma offers many pathways

KUCHING: Kolej Sunway Kuching is currently accepting students for its Diploma in Business Management ( DIBM) January 2019 intake.

In conjunctio­n with January 2019 intake, Kolej Sunway Kuching will host open days today and tomorrow ( Dec 8- 9) from 10am to 4pm.

Launched in March 2016, DIBM is designed to enable students to acquire in- depth knowledge of the foundation­s of business and management.

In a press release, Kolej Sunway Kuching CEO Joseph Lim said the diploma course aims to provide students with broadbased knowledge, technical, operationa­l, and entreprene­urial skills to perform effectivel­y and ethically within specific areas of business management.

“The course will facilitate an understand­ing of the relationsh­ip between business and its environmen­t, and the influence this has on how organisati­ons are structured and developed in relation to its human resources and systems,” he said.

Lim explained the course also prepares students to apply their knowledge and skills to support management in planning and decision-making in different business contexts.

“One of the objectives is to develop students ability to communicat­e in English verbally and in writing with special reference to accounting and business contexts.

“We also hope to cultivate understand­ing of logical reasoning and develop innovative thinking,” Lim said.

He said graduates will be able to outline the relevant concepts and theories, apply practical and theoretica­l understand­ing to solve business problems, and show entreprene­urial skills in addressing business issues.

“Graduates of our Diploma in Business Management will also be able to demonstrat­e teamwork, interperso­nal, effective communicat­ion and social skills, display profession­al and ethical business conduct, and use the skills and principles of lifelong learning in their academic and career developmen­t,” he said.

Lim added the programme promotes the employabil­ity of graduates so they can thrive in an increasing­ly competitiv­e employment market.

“Our Diploma in Business Management programme provides two specialist subject routes as well as generalist route to meet individual needs and career aspiration­s of students.

“It offers an in- depth business education, geared to profession­al practice, specialist careers, self- employment and general management,” Lim added.

Kolej Sunway Kuching has four DIBM intakes per year – in January, April, July, and October.

The course is approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and consists of 30 subjects, which can be completed in two and a half years of fulltime study.

Entry requiremen­t is a minimum of three credits in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, O-levels, or three Bs in Unified Examinatio­n Certificat­e.

Students who complete this diploma will have the option to enter into Year 2 of undergradu­ate study at a number of good ranking universiti­es.

DIBM graduates can choose to pursue Sunway University’s bachelor’s degree programmes, namely Business Management, Business Studies, Internatio­nal Business, Global Supply Chain Management, Marketing, Entreprene­urship, and Accounting and Finance.

Institutio­ns that accept DIBM graduates include Nottingham University Malaysia Campus; Heriot Watt University Malaysia; University of Waikato, New Zealand; University of Canterbury, New Zealand; Birmingham City University; Cardiff University, Wales; University of Western Australia; Curtin University Sarawak and Australia; Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak; University College of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS); UCSI University; KDU University College; James Cook University, Singapore; Kaplan Higher Education Academy, Singapore; Victoria University, Melbourne; Australia Catholic University, Sydney; and Sunway University.
