Sibu Siew Clan Association badminton tourney calling for entries
SIBU: Entries are called for the Sibu Siew Clan Association Badminton Challenge Cup 2019 scheduled for Jan 11-13 next year at Sibu Indoor Stadium.
Sibu Badminton Association ( SBA) president Datuk Lau Cheng Kiong said they are hoping to get at least 16 teams for the championship.
“It’s open to all Sarawakians as well as people who have resided in Sarawak over a year at least,” he said.
Lau said the event would be cancelled if the organisers get fewer than eight teams.
He was speaking at a press conference yesterday.
With him were SBA secretary Dato Thomas Tieng, treasurer Yong King Sung, committee member Philip Kong, event main sponsor Siew Heng Sam and Sibu Siew Clan Association secretary Johnny Shieu.
The championship is divided into a few groups and each team will play each other on roundrobin system in the group stage.
Each team format consists of three doubles - 1st doubles (open), 2nd doubles (veteran) and 3rd doubles (open).
Veteran players are those aged 45 and above.
Each team shal l register a maximum of nine players ( six open players and three veteran players).
The champion team will get RM4,000, first runner-up (RM2,000) and 2nd runner-up ( RM1000). The fourth prize is RM500.
Entry fee is RM200 per team and forms can be obtained from Yong ( 0128093155) and Shieu ( 0198883516).
Completed forms must reach KS Yong and Co Office in Keranji Road by noon on Jan 4.
