S’wak Esports Expo postponed

KUCHING: The inaugural Sarawak Esports Expo which was scheduled to be held at Cityone Megamall from yesterday to Sunday has been officially postponed until further notice in light of the mishap on Tuesday.

Three people were killed and many injured when a powerful gas explosion rocked the shopping mall in Jalan Song.

“We did not make this decision lightly and we have taken the objectives of the Sarawak Esports Expo into considerat­ion in coming to this conclusion,” said organising chairman Afiq Fadhil Narawi.

“Our primary considerat­ion has always been to give exposure to our local community about the future of Esports and provide the right platform to groom the future e- athletes to represent Sarawak at the internatio­nal arena,” he said.

Afiq, who is Sarawak Esports Associatio­n ( SESA) president, thanked the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports and the Sarawak Sports Corporatio­n for standing with SESA in the decision.

“We apologi se for any inconvenie­nce caused to our event partners and supporters, both local and abroad.

“We thank you for your patience and understand­ing.

“He hoped that they would continue to support SESA is its efforts to build up the Esports scene in the state.

“We understand that some of our strategic partners have tournament­s and programmes that could not be delayed with our expo.

“We wish them all the best in their endeavours and hoped that they will continue to support the associatio­n in the future,” added Afiq.
