Power sup­ply to five premises cut off in il­le­gal gam­bling ops

KUCHING: Elec­tric­ity sup­ply to five premises in Batu Kawa and Matang ar­eas were cut off dur­ing an in­te­grated crack­down on il­le­gal gam­bling by au­thor­i­ties on Fri­day.

Padawan District po­lice chief Supt Aidil Bol­has­san said the op­er­a­tion was jointly-con­ducted by the district’s Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tion Depart­ment (CID) and Sarawak En­ergy Bhd (SEB), un­der the pro­vi­sions of Sec­tion 21A of the Com­mon Gam­ing Houses Act 1953.

He also pointed out that all the premises in­volved were re­peat of­fend­ers, which have had their elec­tric­ity sup­ply cut off dur­ing pre­vi­ous raids.

The anti-il­le­gal gam­bling op­er­a­tion, which in­volved five po­lice per­son­nel and five SEB of­fi­cers, cov­ered two premises in Batu Kawa New Town­ship, and one each at Lee Ling Com­mer­cial Cen­tre, the mini-mart at Jalan Matang-Batu Kawa, and an out­let in Syn­ergy Square.
