Change of logo, name to reflect new political scenario — Wong

-

SIBU: United People’s Party ( UPP) is rebranding itself by changing its name to Parti Sarawak Bersatu ( PSB) to reflect the new political scenario in the state.

The rebranding is also in line the party’s plan to spread its wings to other areas, particularly Bumiputera areas, throughout Sarawak, said UPP president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

“And so we changed the party image, with a new mission and vision,” he said when officiating at a pre- New Year gathering organised by Sibu Longhouse Chiefs Association ( PTRS) here yesterday.

Wong, who is also Second Finance Minister and Minister of International Trade and ECommerce, later explained the symbols used in the PSB logo.

He said the map of Sarawak on the logo denotes that the party is locally- based fighting for the state’s rights and interest particularly the rights enshrined in Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“We have included three colours red, yellow and black reflecting the state’s flag colours.

“These colours mean that we are multi- racial, taking care of all races in Sarawak and we are fighting for the togetherness and one spirit of all communities in the state,” he said.

He informed that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg liked the new logo.

According to him, Abang Johari had said during the launching of the UPP extraordinary delegates conference in Kuching on Saturday that the logo was very good as it depicted a sun rising over Sarawak.

He also said that UPP will use the new name and logo as soon as they get the approval from Registrar of Societies ( RoS).

“We will submit our application immediately to RoS tomorrow,” he said.

Also present were PTRS chairman Dieo Kanyan, organising chairperson Bangit Jantan, Tuai Rumah Catherine Tamoh, Pemanca James Semilan and Temenggong Stanley Geramong.
