Good Samaritans bring aid to urban poor families

-

KUCHING: A group of Good Samaritans brought together by voluntary social worker Lim Chee Haw recently reached out to two urban poor families at Kampung Kudei near here after being informed of their predicament.

Lim said the group purchased food items such as rice, cooking oil and other essentials for the families to reduce their burden especially for the coming Christmas celebration.

He disclosed the recipients were Chua Sui Eng and Melissa Matthew, whose husbands are both daily paid labourers with income barely enough to sustain the families.

Chua has three children aged one to nine years old including two who are schooling, while Melissa has five children aged two to 17 years old including two school-going.

“We thank a Good Samaritan named Madam Ng who informed us about these families. This is the first time we are helping them, and coincidentally this is before Christmas which is a season for giving.

“I have lived in poverty and hardship in my younger years, and I understand their predicament. I hope what we gave them would assist in reducing their burden,” said Lim, a retired marine police personnel now devoted to charity work.

On a related matter, Lim said he can be contacted at 082248153 or 016- 8070388 to assist poor families who require coffins for the funeral of a departed family member. He explained that cash donations from Good Samaritans are ‘parked’ at a coffin shop here to be used whenever a genuine request was received.

So far, such assistance had been rendered to families at Kampung Sadir in Puncak Borneo, Sungai Apong here, Kampung Murud Plaman near Serian, Kampung Sinjog near Siburan, Kampung Sabang in Simunjan, Kampung Tanah Merah at Mile 27 of KuchingSerian Road, and Kampung Mantung Marau in Serian.
