Sarikei’s Mega Electrical, Miri’s RRSS lift Dr Sim Kui Hian Cup

KUCHING: Mega Electrical from Sarikei and Riam Road Secondary School ( RRSS) of Miri were crowned the men’s and women’s champions respective­ly of the 2nd Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian Cup Volleyball Championsh­ip at the MBKS Indoor Stadium here on Saturday night.

Mega Electrical staved off a spirited fightback by IJM Land before winning 2-1 ( 25- 7, 20- 25, 15-11) to carry off the challenge trophy, the champion’s trophy and RM1,000 plus medals in the men’s competitio­n.

IJM Land collected RM600, a trophy and medals.

The play- off for third spot saw RRSS edging PJVC 2-1 ( 25- 23, 24- 26, 15-12) to collect RM300, a trophy and medals while the latter received RM200, a trophy and medals.

RRSS, however, were not to be denied top honours as they clinched the women’s crown with a 2- 0 ( 25-13, 25-21) win over Cammaradie Eternally in the final.

They received RM800, the champion’s trophy and medals while Cammaradie Eternally were awarded RM500, a trophy and medals.

CV’S finished third after they beat PJVC 2- 0 ( 25- 20, 25-19) in the play- off to receive RM300, a trophy and medals while the latter received RM200, a trophy and medals.

MBKS councillor Kho Teck Wan, who represente­d the Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, closed the event and gave away the prizes.

Also present were Kuching Division Volleyball Associatio­n ( KDVA) chairman Tay Chang Seng and vice chairman Andrew Ting Ing Ying.

The eight- day championsh­ip organised by KDVA attracted 15 men and eight women’s teams from Miri, Sarikei, Lundu, Police and Kuching.
