Over 100 golfers compete in Mini Gemaputera tourney

KUCHING: The Sarawak Economic Developmen­t Corporatio­n ( SEDC) emerged as the champion in this year’s Mini Gemaputera Golf Invitation­al at Damai Golf and Country Club (DGCC) last Sunday.

SEDC Sarawak, which fielded three teams in the one-day event, also took third spot. Finishing second was a team from Melaka.

Top three in the Gemaputera Individual category were Amirul Aizat, Jaafar Dawi and Afizan Ahmad.

Raden Bustari, Awang Sani and Iskandar Matjani were the first three in the Individual open event.

The VIP category saw Lieutenant General Datuk Stephen Mundaw Amirul Aizat, SEC Sarawak general manager Datu Soedirman Aini and Datu Ik Pahon Joyik finishing first, second and third.

Competitio­n was also held for Invited guests, Nearest to the pin and Nearest to the line.

SEDC Sarawak chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain gave away the prizes.

He said the event was aimed at fostering cordial relations among golfers representi­ng state SEDCs from Melaka, Selangor, Johor and Sarawak.

Over 100 golfers took part in the tournament which was also being held in conjunctio­n with SEDC Sarawak’s 46th anniversar­y celebratio­n.

Meanwhi le, DGCC general manager Roslan Mohd Salleh announced that over 300 golfers from throughout Malaysia will compete in next weekend’s KPM Golf Tournament organised by Ministry of Education (MoE).
