‘Soldier suspected of sodomy not arrested, has no prior criminal record’

-

KUCHING: An army officer suspected of sodomising his civilian housemate was not arrested by police, according to a statement issued by the First Infantry Division here yesterday.

The statement said contrary to media reports, the soldier was only called to a police station here to facilitate investigation following four police reports lodged by the 25-year- old alleged victim.

“Earlier news reports stating that he was arrested are not accurate as he went on his own accord to the Kuching police headquarters to assist the police pursuant to their investigation.

“In addition, he has no previous criminal record as stated in the news reports,” said the statement, which added that the soldier has denied any wrongdoing.

It also mentioned that the soldier was released on police bail after his statement was recorded at the Kota Sentosa police station on Dec 9.

News reports had quoted Padawan police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan on the soldier’s arrest and of him having a prior criminal record.
