Dept holds house-to-house checks for dog bite cases

SARIKEI: The Health Department began conducting its Active Case Detection (ACD) operation yesterday to trace cases of dog bites in residentia­l areas here.

A press statement from the department said the operation was launched following the detection of rabies positive cases at Jalan Jongkong here recently.

Health Department officers will make house-to-house visits to check if anyone in the area had been bitten by dogs from July 1.

The residentia­l areas involved are those located within a 1km radius of Jalan Jongkong.

They are Jalan Jelutong Barat, Jalan Kiong Soon, Jalan Chung Nik, Jalan Tung Yee 1 and 2, Jalan Ti Sing, Jalan Eng Tai, Jalan Merbau, Jalan Permai, Lorong Bangunan Kerajaan, Jalan Alan, Jalan Rejang, Jalan Ubah, Jalan Punai, Jalan Lajung, Jalan Palma, Jalan Tangki Air, Perumahan Kuarters Kastam, Perumahan Kuarters Kerajaan Negeri, Kuarters JKR, Jalan Repok, Jalan Buris, and Lorong Keranji.

The department expects to cover all the areas by Sunday ( Dec 16).

However, if required, the operation could be extended until Friday next week ( Dec 21).
