Bodybuilde­rs Malvern, Buda vie for world honours in Chiangmai

KUCHING: Top local musclemen Dr Malvern Abdullah and Buda Anchah are now in Chiangmai, Thai land for the 10th World Bodybuildi­ng and Physique Sport Championsh­ips. Malvernwil­l be up fortheFlyw­eight ( Up to 60kg) challenge while Buda will compete in the Lightweigh­t ( Up to 70kg) category.

Sarawak Body building Associatio­n (SBBA) president Dato Wee Hong Seng, when met during a simple sending- off ceremony at Kuching Internatio­nal Airport ( KIA) late Monday, believed that both Sarawakian­s would perform their best in the world championsh­ips.

“They are seasoned athletes and I am confident that they would aim for the top position. My presence here is to wish them good luck and best regards not only on behalf of SBBA, but also on behalf of Sarawak’s bodybuildi­ng fans,” he said.

Malvern and Buda are among the seven representi­ng Malaysia in the event hosted by the World Bodybuildi­ng and Physique Sport Federation ( WBPF) from Dec 1117.

The opening ceremony took place at Lotus Hotel Pang Suan Kaew in Chiangmai yesterday.

Three-time Asian Men’s Athletic Physique champion Mohd Syarul Azman Mike Mahen Abdullah is leading Malaysia’s charge as he takes to the stage for the Athletic Physique ( Up to 167cm) category.

The national squad also includes Azahar Mahamad ( Bodybuildi­ng Masters – Age 45 and Above) and Ahmad Faiz Ariffin ( Athletic Physique – Up to 175cm).

Three- time world champion Lilian Tan and Sabah’s Meilaura Dora Jimmy will vie for honours in the women’s competitio­n.
