Woman sentenced to jail for drug abuse

SIBU: A 37-year- old woman received a jail sentence totaling 16 years and six months after pleading guilty yesterday to three counts of abusing drugs.

Lee Kee Hee was sentenced under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39C(1) of the same Act.

The section provides for an imprisonme­nt term between five and seven years, and not more than three strokes of the cane.

For the first charge, the Sessions Court sentenced Lee, who has prior conviction­s for the same offence, to five years’ imprisonme­nt for testing positive for amphetamin­e and methamphet­amine at the Sungai Merah police station here on July 25 this year at 4.40pm.

For the second offence, she received a jail term of five years and six months for testing positive for the same drugs at the same police station on June 10, 2016 at 11.30am.

For the third charge, Lee was given a jail sentence of six years for a similar offence committed on March 29, 2014 at 11.35am at the Narcotics Crime Investigat­ion Division office at Wawasan Road here.

The court ordered the sentences to run concurrent­ly.

Meanwhile, a separate case saw a 39-year- old man jailed for five years and ordered to be whipped twice after he pleaded guilty in the Sessions Court to abusing drugs.
