Jamit to allocate RTP fund for construction of bridge to Rumah Robert
KAPIT: Residents of Rumah Robert Ngumbang, Nanga Sebatu were relieved when Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat agreed to their proposal to move the junction to their longhouse to a more suitable site.
The present junction to link the longhouse to the main road is not suitable because it is at the lower elevation ( bottom) of a slope, resulting in motorists always accelerating while descending from the upper slope which is very dangerous, according to village security and development committee chairman Watson Awan.
Watson made the suggestion for the new junction to be sited at the junction of Jalan Song along the bank of the Rajang River which is about 500 metres away from the trunk road during a dialogue with Jamit recently, which entailed building a bridge..
“Just now we visited the site for the proposed road junction and to build an iron bridge and I shall allocate Rural Transformation Programme ( RTP) fund for the project next year. I will also allocate fund to purchase mosaic for all the families here - RM52,000 or RM 1,000 each to the 52 families for buying tiles,” Jamit announced.
He encouraged the longhouse residents to venture into commercial agriculture to generate income from their land.
“We hope with the road connectivity, land owners would open up their land. Already, land owners at Rumah Robert have planted the latest high yielding rubber clone with assistance from Risda ( Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority),” he said.
Speaking on behalf of his longhouse, Tuai Rumah Robert Ngumbang pledged to give their total support to Kapit member of Parliament Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi and Jamit in the coming elections.
“You can rest assured that voters from this longhouse would give you their support because all these years you have made living here easier and better. Now, we have good road to Song or Kapit,” assured Robert Ngumbang.
