Weekend Sunday Market in CocoCabana set to attract visitors

MIRI: Residents here and visitors alike will have an opportunit­y to take part and witness various activities at the Weekend Sunday Market in CocoCabana here tomorrow held in conjunctio­n with the Christmas celebratio­n.

The activities jointly organised with two local churches, stall vendors and CocoCabana operator are to help spread the joy of Christmas and commemorat­e the birth of Jesus Christ more than 2,018 years ago on Dec 25.

Organising chairman Mark Tan said the Sunday Christmas Bazaar which is part of the weekend market will run from 2pm to 9pm.

Admission is free except for the colouring contest at 4pm where each participan­t needs to pay RM5 as attractive prizes await winners.

“At 5.30pm there will be singing of Christmas carols by St. Joseph Cathedral choir members while Santa Claus will make an appearance at 7pm.

“There will also be Christmas Buskers by performers from the local church ‘ The Kingdom of Jesus Christ,’ said Tan to The Borneo Post yesterday.

Other activities available at the venue are selling of various items especially local products ranging from food, clothings, handicraft­s – like beads and baskets as well as accessorie­s for Christmas by stall vendors.

“The Sunday Christmas Bazaar is part of the Weekend Sunday Market held twice a month, as part of our efforts to boost the local economy and help bring tourists to Miri,” he said adding that CocoCabana is becoming an important attraction for both locals and visitors as hundreds of people come here especially on weekend due to its strategic and scenic view.

It is located at the tip of the Miri Marina – part of the new and bustling business district spanning 550 acres with a 1.25mile frontage to the South China Sea.
