Two foreigners charged with killing fellow worker

MIRI: Two Indonesian plantation workers were charged in the Sessions Court here yesterday for killing their fellow countryman.

Kahar Sanuddin, 38, from Bulukumba, Indonesia and Abdul Hamid Maupa, 48, from Bantaeng, Indonesia were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same code.

They face the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Based on facts of the case, they were accused of murdering their fellow countryman, Rusdi Naming, 22.

They allegedly committed the offence at 11pm on Dec 1, at a workers living quarters in an estate in Beluru, with five others who are still at large.

Prosecutin­g officer ASP Koay Kok Ping applied for a date for further mention of the case, while awaiting the postmortem and chemist reports on the case exhibits to be ready.

Judge Steve Ritikos then set January 29, 2019 for the case to be mentioned at Marudi Magistrate Court.

Meanwhile, both accused were not offered any bail and were ordered to be detained at Miri Central Prison while awaiting trial.

In a separate case, Abdul Hamid was sentenced to four months jail and whipping after he was found guilty of entering the state illegally.

He was charged under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigratio­n Act 1959/63 ( Amended 2002) and punishable under Section 6 (3) of the same act.
