FABBA to relive ABBA’s popular hits in maiden concert in Kuching

KUCHING: FABBA – a band formed as a tribute to the Swedish pop group ABBA – will come down to the city for a show that ABBA fans here would never forget.

The concert, set to be staged at Pullman Hotel Kuching this Dec 29 and to commence at 8pm, is set to attract 1,000 spectators.

“FABBA, the ultimate ABBA tribute band, strives to entertain people of all ages, and aims to share with them the music that made ABBA so popular – making it even more fun by adding comedy and stageplay elements in all their performanc­es,” said a spokesman for the organiser responsibl­e for bringing FABBA here all the way from Australia.

“To encourage concert-goers to come dressed in ABBA costumes, we will be giving away special prizes for the ‘Best Dressed Man and Woman’ on the night of the concert,” he added.

Tickets are priced at RM250 per person, inclusive of refreshmen­ts. Children aged 12 and below may enter for free.

deriving from the initials of each of its member’s first names. They gained worldwide fame after winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, hosted in the UK. Active until the early 1980s, ABBA is considered as among the most successful acts in the history of popular music, and has spawned many tribute bands, such as FABBA. Establishe­d in 1996, FABBA was initially known as the ‘FABBA Girls’. It was only in 2000 that auditions were held to find the ‘ Benny and Bjorn’ of the group, as well as a drummer and bass player to complete the ensemble. In September 2000, the Australian band decided to take the music and costumes that made ABBA famous by adding the fun, glitz and glamour of the musical ‘Mamma Mia’ into their act; thus creating FABBA. The group has achieved overwhelmi­ng response from ABBA fans – they once performed before a 10,000- strong audience filling up a stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam. In 2012, they received an award for being the ‘Best Live Australian Show Band’.
