KUCHING: Pakatan Harapan ( PH) federal government will build a new house for Tchee Fah Hin, whose son Kiam Jong was among the three killed in an explosion that struck CityONE Megamall here on Dec 4.

Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong, who announced this yesterday, said before such construction could take place through Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB), the Sarawak government would need to alienate a piece of land for Fah Hin, 66.

“The PH government has agreed to build a house for Fah Hin after the Sarawak government alienates a piece of land, which I understand is an empty plot near his current place,” she said in a press conference at Democratic Action Party’s ( DAP) Sarawak headquarters here yesterday.

Yong said SPNB, a company owned by the Ministry of Finance, would start building the house as soon as the Sarawak government completed the necessary procedures.

According to her, the house would be a Rumah Mesra Rakyat ( RMR) type with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and a living area.

She said she had conveyed the good news to Fah Hin during a visit to the latter’s house at Stampin Resettlement Area here on Thursday. She also paid a courtesy call on SPNB Sarawak office on the same day to discuss the subject matter.

“I met SPNB Sarawak relations officer Wan Habeed Alli Wan Yep Mohdzar to discuss this case in detail. Of course SPNB will give priority to Fah Hin,” she added.

Yong said for an applicant to be eligible for the RMR scheme under SPNB, the applicant must first own a piece of land.

As such, she urged the Sarawak government to expedite the process and finalise the land alienation

and if the Sarawak government could do more, it would be most welcome.

“If the Sarawak government wishes to build the house, we welcome that. As long as we are the government of the day, we are duty- bound to help Fah Hin during this difficult time.

“I hope that things would come to a close soon,” she added.

Last Sunday, Fah Hin expressed his wish to have a house built on his own land when Gabungan Parti Sarawak ( GPS) Youth leaders visited him at his wooden shack in Stampin Resettlement Area.
